West Bank is the territory on the western bank of the Jordan River in the country of Israel. It is one of the Palestinian territories with disputed status. It is actually the eastern Palestinian territory despite its name.

The West Bank is a landlocked territory. It is surrounded on almost all sides by the Jewish state. To the east is the Jordan River which is its border with the state of Jordan. The official state of the area is a Palestinian territory occupied by the Israeli state. This happened in 1967 when Jewish military reclaimed what they call the Judea and Samaria regions.

Tourism in the West Bank has been under the control of Israeli authority ever since the occupation. In spite of that there are still areas where most Israeli people are not recommended to go. Ever since the 70s Israel has developed touristic facilities mostly connected with religious pilgrimages. Currently the control and development of tourism in the areas is done by a Joint Committee on Tourism administered by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism and Palestinian authorities.

Bethlehem

The town of Bethlehem is considered the birthplace of Jesus Christ as well as of King David and the matriarch Rachel. It is a very popular destination in Judea that receives more than 1.3 million visitors yearly. The Church of Navity is situated there. It is believed that it has been built on the site where Jesus was born. Other locations there are the Manager Square, Shepherd’s Field, Solomon’s Pools, and Salesian Cremisan Monastery.

Herodium

Herodium has the ruins of the fortress of Herod the Great. It is constructed on the top of a hill. Herod was a client king during the rule of the Romans in Judea. He is famous for the construction of the Second Jewish Temple in Jerusalem.

Hebron

Hebron holds the tombs of the patriarchs and matriarchs. It is revered by both Jewish and Muslim people. In past times it used to be the capital of the Jewish state before King David moved it to Jerusalem.

Car rental companies that operate in Israel and the West Bank are Avis, Budget, Sixt, and Eldan.

The Temple Mount is situated in the Old City part of Jerusalem, Israel. It is among the holiest places for two religions- Judaism and Islam.

According to Jewish traditions Temple Mount is one of the most sacred places for their religion. It is where God chose to leave the Devine Presence to rest. According to Jewish mythology the whole world expanded and took its present form from that location. Moreover, there God collected dust to create the first human- Adam. Also, it is the place where Abraham was asked by God to sacrifice his most beloved son Isaac.

According to the Old Testament par of the Bible it is the place where all life should be governed from. It is supposed to be the center of political, judicial, economic and religious administration of the people. Furthermore, according to biblical scholars it is the place to which all prayers must be targeted at because the word of God will come out o that place.

Another reason why this hill is so important for Jewish people is because it is the place where the two Jewish temples stood. The first one was constructed by Solomon and demolished by the Babylonians. The second was erected later by Zerubbabei and was destroyed as a punishment by the Romans after an unsuccessful independence rebellion.

Many Jews still believe that is also going to be the place where the third and last temple will be built at the end of times. It is the holiest site of Judaism and all prayers are directed in its direction. It is also common among Jewish people not to step on the mount itself because it is considered that the place still holds some of its former divine presence. There, the high priest used to communicate directly with God.Exotic Car Rental Miami seo agency

You might consider renting a car for your tourist trip to this holy site. Car rental companies that operate there are Avis, Budget, Sixt, and Eldan.

Israel and Jews take a lot of space in popular media and thinking. They are one of the oldest nations in the world as well as one of the youngest counties. They can trace back their origins to the second millennia BC. Their current national state was formed in 1948.

The state of Israel is a very diverse one. According to official data there are more than 33 languages and dialects that are spoken in the territories of modern Israel. The main language of the state is Modern Hebrew. Nonetheless, there are two official languages in Israel- Hebrew and Arabic.

Hebrew

Modern Hebrew is a Semitic language of the Afro-Asiatic group. It was created in the late 19th century by Eliezer Ben-Yehuda in the Zionist attempt to revive Hebrew as a spoken language. The language had a short struggle against the Yiddish language for dominance over the Israeli state after the independence of 1948. Nowadays, every immigrant is required to study Hebrew as well as all Arab and other foreign nationals residing on the territory of the country. It is the official language of the administration, education, legislation, commerce, and court.

The language is based on the Classical Hebrew which has been used for study and prayer in Jewish communities for the last 2000 years. The Classical Hebrew as in the sacred book Torah is supposed to have originated around the 6 century BC with the Babylonian Exodus of the Jewish people.

Yiddish

Yiddish is a High German language of the Ashkenazi Jews that was spoken around the world. It is a fusion of German dialects with Slavic, Hebrew, Aramaic, Romance languages, and written in Hebrew alphabet. The language originated in the 10th century in the Rhine region and then spread in Central and Eastern Europe. It later separated in Western and Eastern Yiddish which adopted many words from Western and Slavic languages.

Arabic

Arabic is the other official language in Israel. It is spoken by Arab citizens of Israel and Jews that came from Arabic-speaking countries. Roughly a fifth of the Israeli population has Arabic origins. Initially, the Jewish government was very reluctant about the use of Arabic in state matters. Then, in 200 a decision was made about the more extensive use of the language.

Other

Among the other commonly spoken languages are English, Russian, Romanian, Amharic, Ladino, Polish, Ukrainian and Spanish.

The leading car rental agencies in Israel are Avis, Budget, Sixt, and Eldan.

The state of Israel has a population of seven and a half million people. The biggest part of the population is Jews 75%, Arabs 20% and others. The Jewish majority can be divided into four big groups.

Ashkenazi Jews

Ashkenazi Jews are the Jews whose origins can be traced to the medieval Jewish communities near the Rhine river between Alsace and Rhineland modern day Germany. Later, they migrated to the east and settled in Hungary, Poland, Belarus, Lithuania, Russia, and Ukraine between the 11th and the 19th century. Their migration eastward was mostly due to Christian prosecutions during the era. The group developed a language called Yiddish that is based on German and has a lot of influence from Hebrew and Slavic languages.

In the 11th century the Ashkenazi Jews represented only 3% of the global Jewish population and in 1931 they were almost 92%. Today, they form about 80% of the Jewish population. The majority of Jews who came from Europe back to Israel and those who went to North America are Ashkenazi Jews.

Mizrahi Jews

Mizrahi Jews are descendants of the Jews that settled in the Middle East, North Africa and the Caucuses. They are mostly Sephardic Jews as a denomination within the Judaism faith. Today they make up more than half of Israel’s Jewish population. They speak Arabic, Judeo-Arabic dialects and the languages of the Muslim states they settled in.

Sephardi Jews

The Sephardi Jews are the offspring of the Jews that lived in the Iberian peninsula before they expulsion from there in the 15th century. They speak Judeo-Spanish called Ladino.

Beta Jews

Beta Jews are Jews that lived in the territories of the Ethiopian Empire. The great majority of the Ethiopian Jews returned to Israel during the 1980s under the Law of Return. That law allows Jews and people with Jewish descent as well as their spouses and children to receive Israeli citizenship. A few operations were mounted in order to help the safe migration of these people in the war and famine-torn country of Ethiopia.

Arabs

During the Palestinian exodus of 1948 the great majority of the Arab people of the territories of Israel left. Many remained. As of the end of this decade roughly 20% of the population of Israel is Arabic. They are particularly Sunni Muslims. They speak Arabic and Hebrew.

Israel is a country situated in the Middle East with global historical, cultural and religious importance. The little state and its capital Jerusalem have immense magnitude for all Jewish, Christian and Muslim denominations. There are situated most of the sacred places of these three religions.

Jewish Sacred Sites

The most famous and important religious sigh for the Jewish people in Jerusalem is the Western Wall. It is the only remaining part of the temple of Herod from 20 BC. It is supposed to have been part of the Second Temple. The temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD as a punishment for a Jewish rebellion. Ever since the 16th century this remnant has turned into the most popular pilgrimage destination for Jews.

The Western Wall is also known as the Wailing Wall because of the thousands of believers that flock to the Western Wall Plaza to grieve for the loss of their temple.

Other very important Jewish sites that can be seen are the Hurva Square in the heart of the Jewish District, the Israel Museum, Bible Lands Museum, Herzel Museum, and the Hebrew University in West Jerusalem.

Christian Sacred Sites

Among the Christian sacred sites one of the most important one is the Chapel of Ascension. It is a temple holy for both Christians and Muslims where it is believed that Jesus ascended after his resurrection. The footprints of Christ are imprinted in a stone in the floor of this chapel/mosque. The building was constructed by the Crusaders around 1150. Later, in the 12th century, a stone dome and a mihrab were added turning into a Muslim site because the ascension of Jesus is also recognized by the Muslims. Nowadays, the Chapel of Ascension together with its adjacent mosque and minaret are part of the Muslim part of Jerusalem.

Other important Christian sites in Jerusalem are the Church of All Nations, Church of Dominus Flevit, Church of John the Baptist, Church of Mary Magdalene, Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Tomb of Lazarus and many others.

Muslim Sacred Sites

The Dome of the Rock is the most famous Islamic site in Jerusalem and the third most important in general for all Muslims. The other two are- first the Grand Mosque in Mecca, and second the Mosque of the Prophet in Medina. The Dome of the Rock is on the Temple Mount and can be seen from all over Jerusalem. It is a shrine rather than a mosque that is built over a sacred stone where it is believed that the Prophet Mohammad ascended into heaven. The shrine was built between 688 and 691 AD and is the oldest Muslim religious relic standing today. It was built on top of the place where Jews believe that Abraham was about to sacrifice his son Isaac to God. It is also considered that it stands over the Holy of the Holies of the Solomon’s Temple and the Herod’s Temple.

Other famous Islam sites in the city are the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Dome of the Chain, El-Kas Fountain, Islamic Museum, Mosque of Omar, Tomb of David and others.

If you are considering visiting this holy place you might choose to rent a car. Trusted car rental companies in Israel are Sixt, Avis, Budget Cars, Auto Europe and Hertz.

Israel is located in the Middle East, along the eastern coastline of the Mediterranean Sea, bordered by Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. It lies at the junction of three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa. Israel is a parliamentary democracy with legislative, executive and judicial branches.

Although small in size, about 21,596 sq km it has varied topographical features ranging from forested highlands and fertile green valleys to mountainous deserts and from the coastal plain to the semitropical Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth.

Israel’s climate is characterized by much sunshine, the rainy season extends from October to early May, and rainfall peaks in December through February.

Israel has a rich variety of flora and fauna with 116 species of mammals native to Israel, 511 kinds of birds, 97 types of reptiles and seven types of amphibians and some 2,780 types of plants grow countrywide. Eilat’s coral reef is regarded as a national treasure, and its corals, sponges and shellfish have been protected since 1956.

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, the seat of government and the historical, spiritual and national center of the Jewish people since King David made it the capital of his kingdom over 3,000 years ago. The city of Jerusalem presents a contrast, the Old City is over two thousand years old, and the streets are very narrow and winding while the new city is like any other modern new city, with wide boulevards and highways.

Jews, Moslems and Christians of all denominations hold Jerusalem to be a Holy City, and a site for major religious pilgrimages.

The leading car rental agencies in Israel are Avis, Budget, Sixt, and Eldan.
