Tourism in the West Bank

West Bank is the territory on the western bank of the Jordan River in the country of Israel. It is one of the Palestinian territories with disputed status. It is actually the eastern Palestinian territory despite its name.

The West Bank is a landlocked territory. It is surrounded on almost all sides by the Jewish state. To the east is the Jordan River which is its border with the state of Jordan. The official state of the area is a Palestinian territory occupied by the Israeli state. This happened in 1967 when Jewish military reclaimed what they call the Judea and Samaria regions.

Tourism in the West Bank has been under the control of Israeli authority ever since the occupation. In spite of that there are still areas where most Israeli people are not recommended to go. Ever since the 70s Israel has developed touristic facilities mostly connected with religious pilgrimages. Currently the control and development of tourism in the areas is done by a Joint Committee on Tourism administered by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism and Palestinian authorities.
